Firewood

Shep’s Yard offers a superior blend of hardwoods. Our firewood is a mixture of Oak, Ash, Hickory and Cherry (loads may vary), and is split to manageable pieces that are 16-18” in length.  There are about 100 pieces in a 1/4 cord.

We offer 3 options for firewood purchases:

  1. If you have an open bodied vehicle (ie: an appropriate sized truck or trailer), we can load your vehicle with our front end machine.  And the price is as listed below.
  2. If you do not have an open bodied vehicle that we can load with our machine, then you can load it by hand.  And the price is per piece.
  3. We’re always happy to deliver for an additional fee.

Firewood – 16”-18″ MIXTURE

This late in the season, we are currently sold out of Seasoned Firewood. We will have it back in stock this summer – we highly suggest ordering your firewood around that time or early fall.

*Delivery cost is additional and depends on your zip code

Important notes about our firewood:

When placing your order, please ask about the seasoned quality of our current firewood.  There are many variables that are out of our control; such as how, when and where your firewood is stacked that can increase or decrease the seasoned quality.  If seasoned firewood is not stored properly, it WILL regain moisture.  It’s crucial that you stack your firewood in a DRY location, which is exposed to sun and wind, off the ground and out of the rain.  Firewood needs to be stacked so that air can circulate through and around it.  Ideally, it should be purchased by the end of August – then properly stacked, uncovered and allowed to dry until October. Throughout the winter, cover only the top portion of the firewood stack.  Seasoned firewood will naturally have bark and kindling.  As firewood dries and seasons, the bark tends to fall off the wood.  Thus, seasoned wood will typically have loose bark mixed in with the firewood.  Our firewood is loaded with a machine, therefore this bark and kindling won’t be separated from your wood.  Use this kindling to your advantage while starting your fires, it is not trash. Prior to purchase, your firewood was stored outside. Please understand; in order to continue the seasoning process, we store our wood outside and uncovered in a large pile on clean, dry blacktop. Therefore, if your firewood was delivered during a rainy time or freezing temperatures, you will need to allow the wood to sit unexposed to the elements for several days before burning.

“Piling your wood under dripping eaves or in an uncovered heap in the yard is comparable to buying or growing a bunch of beautiful fresh asparagus and then overcooking it: you get no refund for ruining it.” (pg. 8) Thomas, D. The Woodburner’s Companion – Practical Ways of Heating with Wood

“According to a field study conducted by the U.S. Forest Service, wood properly stored in a dry and windy place will reach a moisture content of 20% in as little as two weeks!  If rain falls on it, or if it’s piled in a damp area where little wind reaches it, the wood may never reach 20% moisture content.  So, proper storage is key: if you store your wood properly in the right place, you don’t need a year to season it.  As long as conditions are right, you can have burnable wood in far less time than a year.”  (pg. 143-144)

IMPORTANT: Please carefully review the following Delivery Terms & Guidelines before proceeding with your order. By checking the box at the bottom of this page and completing your purchase, you acknowledge that you have read, understand and agree to all policies outlined below.

ONLINE ORDERS:

Online Ordering is only available for Bulk Material Deliveries. If you are picking up any materials from our yard, you do not need to call ahead or place any orders ahead of time.

CANCELLATIONS / FINAL SALE POLICY:

All online orders are FINAL. Orders cannot be canceled, modified, or refunded once checkout is completed.

CORRECT MATERIAL & QUANTITY:

It is extremely important that you confirm you are ordering the correct bulk material, color, and quantity before completing your purchase. Once an order has been placed, loaded into the truck or delivered, all sales are FINAL.

If you are unsure about which material to order or how much you may need, please contact our office prior to placing your order. Our team is happy to help answer any questions you may have.

For your convenience, we also offer a material calculator on our website to help estimate the amount needed for your project.

SPLIT LOADS / MULTIPLE MATERIALS:

Our delivery trucks do not have dividers; therefore we do not offer split-load deliveries. Only one material can be delivered per order to prevent any materials from mixing.

If you require multiple materials, separate deliveries must be placed. If you believe your request may be an exception, please contact our office prior to ordering to discuss possible options.

DUMPING LOCATION:

You do not need to be present for delivery. However, to ensure proper placement of your material, please mark the dumping location with an inanimate object such as cones, buckets, crossed shovels, a tarp or “X” marked with chalk.

Please ensure vehicles and any other obstructions are moved ahead of time so our driver can safely access the location.

Please note that certain site conditions may prevent us from placing the material in the exact requested location.

DRIVER DISCRETION:

For safety reasons, the final decision regarding site access and material placement is at the sole discretion of the delivery driver. If conditions are deemed unsafe or inaccessible upon arrival, the driver may refuse delivery.

DELIVERY TIMING:

Due to the high volume of deliveries scheduled each day, we cannot guarantee a specific delivery time – only the delivery date. You may request an early delivery by noting it in the Dumping/Special Instructions section when placing your order, and we will do our best to accommodate; however, this cannot be guaranteed.

We strongly recommend scheduling your delivery in advance of when you plan to use the material or coordinate with landscapers.

SIDEWALKS/CURBS/NEW DRIVEWAYS:

Our trucks cannot drive over curbs or sidewalks. Newer paved driveways typically take at least 1-2 weeks to fully cure before any heavy dump truck should drive on it so it is extremely important for us to be aware of this prior to delivery.

Shep’s Yard INC. is not responsible for damage to driveways, curbs, sidewalks, vegetation, structures, drainage pipes, or other property during delivery.

DELIVERY ACCESS & SITE CONDITIONS:

Deliveries must be made on flat, solid ground. We generally do not drive off pavement and will not drive on soft ground, steep slopes, or wet areas. If the requested dumping location requires going slightly off pavement, it will be at the driver’s discretion.

Customers are responsible for notifying us ahead of time of any low power lines, tree limbs, septic systems, underground utilities or other obstacles that may interfere with delivery.

SHARED DRIVEWAY / GATE CODES:

If your property is located on a shared driveway, please provide clear instructions for locating your property in the Dumping/Special Instructions section when placing your order. If a gate code is required for access, it must also be included in that same section prior to delivery.

IMPORTANT! BEFORE COMPLETING PURCHASE:

As stated above, all online bulk delivery orders are FINAL. Orders cannot be canceled, modified, or refunded once checkout is completed.
